twext combines the english words twin and text.. twext also sounds like betwixt which means "between"..

the word twext suggests a twin text format, where twext translation is inserted between lines of text.

bifocal bitext formats translations carefully to help us focus to learn new words in new languages.

translation is loosely defined here to include:

traditional translations, ie english to spanish
dialect comparisons, ie cockney to british
synonyms within a language, ie yadda yadda to etc.
